Super Greens Smoothie Bowl

It is hot in Melbourne today. We don’t get too many hot days here, so I really shouldn’t complain, but I hate the heat! I plan on surviving the heat by making this amazingly delicious, nutritious and refreshing Smoothie Bowl.

Smoothie Bowls are super easy to make, and you really can use any ingredients that you think will taste great.

There is no right or wrong way with a Smoothie Bowl. I always just free-style it, I prefer a thick smoothie so add frozen fruit such as banana to increase the thickness.

For today’s Smoothie Bowl I used the following;
* Rockmelon
* Strawberries
* Blueberries
* Chia seeds
* Pepita seeds
* Raspberries
* Coconut water
* Frozen banana
* Baby spinach
* Boost, Greener Pastures packet
* Freedom Foods Crafted Blends gluten-free bar

I like to see what superfood bars are on special at the Supermarket and include those as a bit of crunch and added sweetness.

Blend the Boost Greener Pastures with 1 cup of coconut water, baby spinach and peptia seeds until you have a smooth consistency. I also added some of the chia seeds, keeping some out for decorating purposes.

Pour into bowl and decorate with berries and additional Chia seeds.

I used cutters to cut out the cute “love” message and stars from the Rockmelon. Time consuming but cute right?

Serve chilled.

Have you enjoyed my recipe, Super Greens Smoothie Bowl? I’d love to hear any feedback you may have!

What’s your favourite Smoothie Bowl recipe?

P.S Stay cool Melbourne!

2017 Christmas Gift Guide

I am a little late to the party with my Christmas Gift Guide, however there is still time for some items if you were to pick up in store. Or, just pop it on your list for the post-Christmas sales.

Some of these items have been gifted as part of my reviews, however I genuinely love the brands I have reviewed. I am a big believer in supporting local Australian brands, every time you purchase from a small business owner you are helping them reach their dreams. Most of the time, their stuff is better that what you can buy from a major retailer.

Let’s kick this off!

1. Malie Organics – Body Wash ($28 USD) and Body Cream ($32 USD), Hibiscus
Pronounced Mah-lee-ay, these products are made in Kauai, Hawaii. Malie uses organic and natural ingredients such as Hawaiian Hydrosols and botanics.

I am a massive fan of Malie, since I purchased some of their goods while I was staying in Waikiki. I especially enjoy the Hibiscus range for Christmas as the packaging is festive, with the red and whites plus it smells like summer!

2. The Tooth Brush Project – Bamboo Toothbrush ($5)
While Christmas is the time for exchanging gifts, eating way too much food and sharing a laugh, it’s easy to get carried away and forget the true meaning – it’s a time for giving.

What a better way, than to give a gift that goes towards making the lives of others better?The toothbrush project, aims to help those less fortunate in Cambodia have access to dental supplies, education around dental hygiene and access to dental professionals.

3. The Natural Clay Co. – Basic Skin Care Pack ($20 AUD)

The Natural Clay Co. is a great little company offering body and lip scrubs and clay masks. They have bundled together a scrub and mask of your choice for $20, which makes a pretty swell Secret Santa gift.

All their products are cruelty free and feature Australian clays. The use of clay in beauty & health has been around for centuries and is known to draw impurities out of the skin.

4. Sensory Soy, Unicorn Soy Candle and Che Sara, Fico Soy Candle ($40) (for Che Sara)

I love candles, who doesn’t – let’s be honest! Especially soy candles. I have featured my Unicorn Soy Candle by Sensory Soy many times over the year since purchasing it at the Queen Victoria Markets. This smells absolutely divine and it has glitter – GLITTER!

My Fico Soy Candle by Che Sara has the loveliest design on the outside and sits inside a white jar. The Che Sara range of candles are inspired by Italy. The Fico candle smells divine, Fico is Fig in Italian and the smell of this candle makes me want to eat a plate of figs!

5. Spilt Mlk – Reusable Coffee Cups – ($27 AUD, or use code HAPPYORGANIC for 20% off)

These amazing coffee cups have just hit the market. Locally designed here in Melbourne, they are just the prettiest and come in three colours. Alaskan Mist (pictured), Millennial Pink and Mint to Be. After watching the ABC program, War on Waste, I was shocked to see how many coffee cups we go through each year and just how many end up in landfill, the figure is astonishing.
Don’t forget you can use code HAPPYORGANIC for 20% off at checkout.

6. Herbs and Heart, Face Mud ($35.99)

I wrote a review on the Herbs and Heart range in this weeks blog, and met the lovely owner, Jumana, in Sydney at Finders Keepers. I purchased the Face Mud while there and I am a big fan. The brand prides itself of the use of natural and organic ingredients and is cruelty free. The Face Mud acts as a cleanser/exfoliator and you can leave it on for a little longer for a deeper cleanse.

Beautiful packaging, Herbs and Heart also offer Christmas gift packs for $99.00

Photo 16-12-17, 6 55 29 pm_preview

7. Chris Cincotta, Humans in Melbourne ($49.99 AUD)

Chris is an ace bloke, he has his little stall on the corner of Bourke and Swanston selling his art. Not only that, he does so much for the people of Melbourne. Helping the homeless and bringing awareness to issues affecting those living here.

One of the best books I have purchased all year, it includes stories from Humans living in Melbourne plus awesome photos by Chris. This book deserves to be sitting on your coffee table in 2018.

Photo 16-12-17, 6 54 53 pm_preview

7. Kiss Ready Lips, 3 step skincare ($70 AUD), Tropical Body Scrub ($14.99 AUD) and Chia               Rose Lip Balm ($14.95 AUD)

Created by Lou, the Kiss Ready brand uses Australian grown Chia seed oil due to the high levels of vitamins and minerals such a Omega 3 and 6. This range is highly nourishing, and while I have yet to complete my review of the brand and products, I do rate the ingredients used. The balm is a favourite as it contains certified organic oats which act as an exfoliant, it melts into a delicious buttery oil when massaged into the skin.

Photo 16-12-17, 6 48 44 pm_preview

9. Ziel Essence, Mojito Foot Fizzy ($4 AUD), Soothe & Nourish Bath Teabag ($12 AUD)

I found this lovely brand while at Finders Keepers in Melbourne. They have affordable aromatherapy products that smell divine. I love the Bath Therapy Teabags, not only do they smell nice, I love playing with the teabag in the bath. I rest it on my chest to inhale all the goodness.

Ziel Essence also offer gift packs for Christmas starting from $14.00.

Photo 16-12-17, 6 51 24 pm_preview

10. Raw Suds, Christmas Gift Pack

Raw Suds is such a cute organic brand, featuring some really lovely products. They believe in reusing items where possible and state on their website they sometimes use old books to wrap the soaps. Raw Suds offer a range of products, soaps, bath bombs, face masks and face cloths.

11. PureNut Macadamia Skincare, Giftpack

How could I forget one of my favourite brands of 2017? I have written about PureNut several times on Instagram and on the blog as I am a big fan. I love this brands origin, they use Macadamia’s from their own farm and take the oil they produce to create their skincare line.

The Man Oil is pure Macadamia oil and I love using this not only to hydrate my skin but to bring life back to my tattoos.

The Body Scrub smells divine and is the perfect consistency.

PureNut offers Gift packs also!

I wish you a very Merry Christmas, be safe and enjoy this time with your loved ones.

Dazzling Dubai

After spending 2 short nights in Dubai, I could definitely return in a heartbeat. Two nights simply wasn’t enough. The architecture is stunning. To think, only a handful of years ago Dubai was pure desert.

Photo 7-11-17-8

We flew into Abu Dhabi and had a taxi drive us to Dubai. From memory it wasn’t too expensive and the drive was interesting. It is basically one long stretch of road.

I picked the Madinat Dar Al Masyaf, part of the Madinat Jumeirah properties. We were not disappointed. Arriving at 7 in the morning, our attendant had a room ready and we were even upgraded! It was so nice being able to have a nice shower before starting our day.

Photo 7-11-17-13

The rooms are beautifully styled featuring traditional Emirati styling. The bathroom luxurious with full-sized toiletries (my favourite!). Turn down service was prompt each night and it was so lovely coming back to the room with our slippers laid out next to the bed plus little treats like sparkling wine and fruit.

One of the main reasons I chose this property to stay at was the beautiful views of the Burj Al Arab from the beach. Also, the beach front position was also a major drawcard, the water here was so perfection. Think crystal clear waters and white as snow sand.

Photo 7-11-17-10
While staying at the property you have the choice of taking the Abra, a traditional Emirati boat, or a buggy around the grounds. This makes jumping from restaurant or pool so easy to do, and helps to keep you out of the sun.

While visiting Dubai, you must do a sand dune tour. What fun! 4WD through crazy sand dunes was so exhilarating, although best not to do after a meal. You end up at a property in the desert for dinner, belly dancing and other traditional Emirati entertainment.

Please let me know if you are planning a trip to Dubai, I have some excellent restaurants I would love to share with you!

Brand Review – Snow Fox Skin Care

Brand Review – Snow Fox Skin Care

Last week I was privileged enough to receive a sample pack of the newly launched Snow Fox Skin Care line. This amazing skin care line is completely vegan, which makes me extremely happy. I love how businesses are recognising and becoming aware that people don’t want to purchase goods that have been tested on animals, and going one step furthers – purchasing goods that sell in countries that require testing by law.

Snow Fox Skin Care is the baby of Phoebe Song who suffered from her own skin issues and wanted to create a product that was natural, pure and potent. Phoebe took her brand to the next level by ensuring her products aren’t sold in China which require testing on animals to be sold there.

There are 3 products to the line;
* Soothing Facial Cleansing Mousse
* Arctic Breeze Detox Masks
* Defence Mutli-Cream (being multi use, you can use this as a primer, day/night cream and even a blender with foundation)

Soothing Facial Cleansing Mousse
This fun cleanser removes dirt and grease without drying the skin. One of the ingredients is organic peppermint oil and this provides a cooling zing when rinsing off the skin.

Photo 25-10-17-1

Arctic Breeze Detox Mask
The Arctic Breeze Detox Mask is made with 100 per cent organic cotton. It provides added moisture and is the perfect mask to complete a freshly cleansed face. It’s easy to use and does not leave any mess. While masking, this provided a tingling sensation and you could feel the magic ingredients working away. Once removed, my skin felt instantly hydrated and smooth.

Photo 25-10-17

Defence Multi-Cream
A cream that you can use as a primer, day/night cream or even to blend your favourite foundation? How convenient. I love finding multi use products to try and cut down my skincare regime. There is definitely no cutting corners with this cream. It has a lovely light weight feel to it and went onto my skin effortlessly.

Photo 25-10-17-2

Some people may find these products heavily scented, however it is scented with organic oils. I personally love the fresh scent of peppermint and recommend this line to all who are looking for an alternative skincare line that has some great values.

Brand in Focus: Pure Nut Macadamia Skin Care

I have written about my love for Pure Nut Macadamia Skin Care several times on Instagram. I met Ann at the LifeInstyle event held in Melbourne. With The Happy Organic Girl concept still just a baby, I was nervous to talk with stallholders there. I’m not actually sure why, perhaps it was due to feeling like a fraud amongst all these amazing businesses. I had only just started my website and I actually didn’t sell any products. However Ann was just so lovely and put my mind at ease, taking the time to explain her products in detail and with such passion.

Ann and her family moved from the city to her Husband’s hometown in country Northern NSW to live on a 50 acre macadamia farm. Ann soon took an interest in the healing properties of the macadamia nut and from there her business was born.

Macadamia oil is very nourishing and brings much needed moisture to the skin. I have been using the Man Oil on my tattoo’s and the colour it brings back to them is amazing. I also smooth a tiny bit on my hair when I’ve finished straightening it to help with frizz!

I also adore the exfoliating body scrub with orange and lavender, this smells divine and has such a lovely texture. This leaves your skin feeling extremely refreshed.

Be sure to pop over and have a look at Ann’s Instagram (@purenutskincare), it is serious goals with gorgeous styled photos.

Lip a little!

Lips are always overlooked in the beauty stakes yet I believe they are the second most important feature on the face, second to the under eye area!

As part of my #selfcaresunday I always do a little lip treatment at the same time as my masks and cleansers. Living in Melbourne my lips tend to become quite chapped very easily. Here I will share with you my easy to follow lip care steps!

Step 1 – Scrub it
Lip Scrub, Frank Body –

I recall being in my early teens and using a little toothpaste on the toothbrush to scrub my lips, the horror! The younger Renee did not realise but the toothpaste is actually drying. What is needed is a highly moisturising scrub, like Frank Body!
This coffee infused scrub is heaven, the scent subtle and it tastes great. A little goes a long way, it’s also affordably priced at $12.95.

Step 2 – Mask it
Rose Lip Mask, Sephora  –

These super handy, one time use Rose Lip Masks by Sephora are heavenly. The scent again is subtle and they leave your lips feeling plump and hydrated.
I was happy that once removed it didn’t leave any sticky residue.
The only disappointing thing is Sephora, although stating they are cruelty free they do sell in China which technically does not mean they are cruelty free.
Good price point at $4.00 per single mask.

Step 3 – Protect it
Rosehip Seed Lip Cream, Aesop –

I am a big fan of the Aesop brand as they are a cruelty free brand that originated in Melbourne, Australia.  I love this brand due to the fact they don’t sell in China therefore can actually say that their products are cruelty free!
The Rosehip Seed Lip Cream has a pleasant scent and although it is a cream, absorbs well into the lips. It leaves a nice texture, however I find the taste unpleasant. I still use it often though due to how it leaves my lips feeling.

Step 4 – Nourish it
Beauty Fix Balm, The Beauty Chef –

Ah the magical Beauty Fix Balm by The Beauty Chef. Honestly, this fixes everything! I love it, and did you know it has chickpeas in it! This is a multi use balm, I use it on my lips and cuticles and sometimes even on my elbows.
This is a non drying balm and is super hydrating. You also get heaps of product, this jar is 30g so will last for ages. I purchased this through Adore Beauty for $24.95, I highly recommend this balm.

What is your favourite face and body treatment! I would love to hear!
